The possibility of creating an otherness (...) springs not just from the fact that words consist of certain sounds and shapes, but also from the fact that these sounds and shapes are nexuses of meaning and feeling, and hence deeply rooted in culture, history and the varities of human experience. The formal sequence therefore functions as a staging of meaning and feeling: a stating that is realized in what I have called a performative reading.
